Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) is a signalling protocol used to create, hold and control communications sessions. Standardized in 1999 by IETF, SIP was initially designed to enhance IP-based calls; however, over time its use was extended to such communications as voice, video, chat, multimedia distribution, and even video games! Today, this protocol is generally applied in audio and video conferencing, telephony and instant messaging.
Traditionally, video conferencing employs two most popular protocols for facilitating video meetings: H.323 and SIP. Basically, H.323 and SIP are quite similar when it comes to developing video conferencing solutions. However, SIP features a somewhat simpler implementation, providing greater flexibility and mobility.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, virtual communication has firmly entered modern lifestyle. This trend has mainly affected global SMBs, educational institutions, judicial and governmental systems, transferring all social interactions from face-to-face to online format. 76% of startup founders reported productivity has either maintained or increased as a result of working remotely during the pandemic.
Video conferencing apps became the lifeline that has helped people withstand the growing global crisis by creating a completely new contactless form for social interactions. Organizations of all kinds have actively implemented teleworking to unify remote teammates, facilitate collaboration, and thus maintain the optimum efficiency needed to keep them afloat. Most importantly, the increase in morbidity among the workforce has been avoided, which is crucial in the context of overcoming the coronavirus pandemic.
We are glad to announce the release of TrueConf Server 4.7.3, the latest version of our video collaboration platform that brings a number of useful enhancements. Don’t forget to update!
